“Jerry” came in to the Crisis Ministry last Tuesday to get food. His cupboards were empty, and he had no money for groceries. Three weeks ago, his mother, the woman who had cared for Jerry for the last 54 years, had been placed in a nursing home. Jerry is disabled and can’t care for himself. He has a little part-time job but will never be able to do more than that. A social worker is trying to find a new place for him to live, but that takes time. Until all of that is sorted out—Jerry is hungry and has nothing to eat at home. As the volunteer loaded Jerry down with bags to take home by bus, his eyes filled with tears. “Thank you so much,” he said. “I didn’t know what I was going to do. Thank you all.”
