As it does for many people, family comes first for Anna. In late February, Anna moved to the Cary area to be closer to her daughter. Like all of us, she did not plan for the COVID-19 Pandemic. Anna had anticipated being able to find work pretty easily, having a strong resume and employment background as an administrative assistant.
After three months, with no responses from employers, she reached out to Dorcas for help. Anna was paired with a volunteer Career Coach, who worked closely with her to identify her strengths and decide where to focus her job search. The Career Coach also helped Anna re-write her resume and discussed strategies on how to continue moving forward. After one virtual meeting with her career coach, Anna was already starting to feel better about her prospects. She had action steps to take and someone to walk beside her during this process.
Anna’s Career Coach continued to work with her through her job search – checking in and offering additional help, including interview practice. After a few weeks, Anna ended up with multiple job interviews with several different companies. She was offered a position and happily accepted! Anna was thrilled and relieved to be employed again.
“The job search process can be intimidating. My Career Coach made such a difference for me – he really helped me find my confidence again. I’m grateful.”
Clients, like Anna, come to Dorcas with a variety of needs, from resume and interview help to food and rental assistance. Financial donations go a long way in helping our neighbors:
